Volunteers for KMEWO

Will you Support Us?

Kurdish and Middle Eastern Women’s Organisation (KMEWO) came together 23 years ago with an aim to support Black and Minoritised Women, survivors of Domestic Abuse and other Harmful Practices. We provide holistic services taking women to a journey towards safety, recovery and rebuild. As an accredited “led by and for” women organisation striving for equality, safety, justice and empowerment, our mission is to ensure that Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North African (KMENA) women living in the UK are supported and empowered, in the hope of helping them to achieve a better standard of life, free from any violence and with legal freedoms intact.

Join our team and let’s bring together a positive change to KMENA women’s life!

We are currently recruiting volunteers in the following areas:

 1. Communications

As a volunteer in KMEWO’s communications, you will work closely together with our Communications Officer and Deputy Director providing support in the organisation’s social media strategy and digital content creation. This is a great opportunity for a volunteer with a passion about women’s rights who believes that digital media is an impactful means to raise awareness on Black and Minoritised women’s rights by telling the organisation’s story with an aim to influence and inspire the public! This position is ideal for a Media student or graduate who would like to gain some work experience in the field of non-for-profit sector.

Kurdish Sorani and/or Arabic and Farsi speakers are more than welcome to approach us!

If you are interested in the above position, please complete the Volunteer Application Form

or contact anastasia@kmewo.com

2. Supporting KMEWO’s Staff in Organising Group Activities

A very important part of KMEWO’s holistic services is that of supporting women who fled an abusive relationship to rebuild their lives. Our charitable organisation creates safe spaces for Black and Minoritised women to share their experiences, learn and acquire skills that will eventually help them to stand on their own. We are looking for volunteers with great organisational skills to support KMEWO’s staff in organising and facilitating group activities, including ESOL classes, wellbeing sessions, community engagement activities, International Women Day etc. Speaking an additional community language is always an asset, as English language is a second or third language for most of the service users.

If you are interested in that position, please complete the Volunteering Application Form

or contact

gulghutai@kmewo.com or call 020 7263 1027

This is a recurring recruitment process, so if you fulfil the above criteria and you would like to be part of KMEWO’s team, please do feel free to contact us by sending your CV and we will explore together all the possibilities of collaboration!

Training will be provided for all volunteers by our experienced staff members!

*The post is open to women only; due to the KMEWO’s commitment to the principles of “led by and for” service provision, the candidate’s gender is an occupational requirement (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1) Section 7(2)e of the 1975 Sex Discrimination Act and Section 5(2) d of the 1976 Race Relations Act applies).
