Women’s Development and Employment Programme

Language barriers, isolation, and limited access to education and employment opportunities continue to hold many women back from reaching their full potential. When it comes to survivors of domestic abuse, those skills can be lifesaving and give a significant boost to women to leave the abusive relationship and kickstart their lives.

At KMEWO, we believe in empowering women through knowledge, upskilling, and confidence to take control of their futures.

Our Women’s Employment and Development Programme provides a supportive and inclusive environment where women can learn, grow, and connect, gaining important skills for their thriving.

Digital Inclusion

We believe that digital inclusion is a vital part of empowering Black and Minoritised women. In an increasingly digital world, access to technology, digital skills, and online services is essential for education, employment, health, and social connections. Yet, many women from marginalised communities face systemic barriers to digital access and literacy, deepening existing inequalities. By championing digital inclusion, KMEWO works to bridge the digital divide—ensuring that all women have the tools, confidence, and opportunities to thrive in a connected society. We also offer free SIM cards and data kindly gifted by the Good Things Foundation.

We provide tablets on an on-loan basis to survivors of domestic abuse and particularly to those who have No Recourse to Public Funds. In addition to that, we also offer free data and SIM cards with an aim to tackle digital exclusion in the communities we serve.

This programme is designed with the specific needs of KMENA women in mind, creating equal opportunities for empowerment, self-growth and independence towards a better standard of life.

Case Study: Empowering Women Through Employment Advice and Digital Inclusion – Mrs. S.A.’s Journey

In May 2024, Mrs. S.A. came to KMEWO seeking support to promote her handmade jewellery business. Although passionate and eager to grow her sales, she lacked experience in online promotion. The dedicated employment and development caseworker provided one-to-one guidance, helping her set up and optimise Instagram and Facebook business accounts to showcase her work and connect with a wider audience.

During a follow-up session in June, Mrs. S.A. expressed a desire to sell her products in person. We recommended car boot sales as a cost-effective way to reach local customers and supplied a list of websites where she could register for upcoming events in London.

To strengthen her business communication skills, we encouraged her to enrol in our ESOL classes starting in September. She successfully completed the course in November, gaining confidence and improving her English.

Thanks to her determination and the support received, Mrs. S.A. is now selling her jewellery both online and at local markets. Her growing success has inspired plans to open a physical store—an exciting step forward made possible through digital inclusion and holistic support.
