Mental Health Services

Counselling

Survivors of domestic abuse and harmful practices often carry deep emotional scars. For Black and Minoritised women, these traumas are often intersected with racism, gender discrimination, war, forced migration, and the loss of home and family. Many arrive in the UK with limited English and little knowledge of their rights, making access to support even more difficult.

As part of our Recovery services, we provide a safe, confidential and culturally sensitive spaces providing counselling services tailored to the unique needs of women from Kurdish, Middle Eastern, and North African (KMENA) communities.

Our trauma-informed, person-centred approach is delivered by BACP-accredited counsellors who understand the complex cultural and emotional needs of the women we support. We offer up to 14 sessions of free counselling in the following languages:

  • Kurdish Sorani
  • Arabic
  • Amharic
  • Tigrinya
  • Farsi
  • English

The Mind the Gap Project

In 2023, our counselling services became a standalone programme through the ‘Mind the Gap’ project, funded by Islington Giving and the Cripplegate Foundation. This initiative allows us to expand our reach and provide dedicated mental health support to more women in need.
