What do we do?
KMEWO provides specialist and holistic services to survivors of Domestic Abuse and Harmful Practices with a focus on Kurdish, Middle Eastern and North African Women. The services are provided in safe and confidential spaces in mother tongue.
One to one advocacy and support to survivors of Violence Against Women and Girls, including domestic abuse, forced marriage, FGM, so-called Honour-Based Violence, and support to women without access to public funds.
One to One Community advice and support for housing, welfare benefits, education, and employment with referrals to specialised immigration and family legal advice. The service is offered in Kurdish Sorani, Arabic, Farsi and in English.
One to one trauma informed and culturally competent counselling delivered by BACP-accredited therapists in Arabic, Kurdish Sorani, Farsi, Amharic, and Tigrinya.
Women's only therapeutic groups to combat isolation and strengthen social support networks.
Women’s development and employment support through one to one advice in Arabic and English, women's only English classes to combat language barriers, digital inclusion coaching workshops, all available face to face in community hubs and online.
Digital inclusion, offering digital tablets and data to women in refuges and temporary accommodation.
Training for professionals on harmful practices (forced marriage, female genital mutilation, the so-called 'Honour' Based Abuse) with an aim to raise awareness on the complex nature of harmful practices when intersected with VAWG and improve responses of possible incidents.
Immediate response to the cost-of-living crisis via donations, cash grants, emergency accommodation and food vouchers to women without access to public funds.
Capacity Building via workshops, support groups, educational and leisure activities to help tackle isolation, create opportunities for volunteering, mentoring and peer support.
The holistic services are FREE and provided in women-only spaces at a safe and confidential environment.
One to One Domestic Abuse Advocacy & Community Advice and Support
Culturally competent domestic abuse advocacy and support in Kurdish Sorani, Arabic, Farsi and in English.
Community advice and support on welfare benefits, housing, income maximisation, debt management and also referrals to immigration and family law.
One-on-one counselling
in mother tongue (Kurdish Sorani, Arabic, Farsi, Amharic and Tigrinya) and in English, provided by BACP accredited counsellors in safe and confidential spaces.
Wellbeing activities
And group outings to combat isolation and strengthen social support networks.

Harmful Practices Training for Professionals
in the statutory and voluntary sectors with an aim to explore the complex nature of Forced Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation and Honour Based Abuse for timely and efficient responses to potential incidents.

We Provide A Range of Support Groups
Women participate in weekly support group sessions.
They offer participants a safe space to discuss and share experiences, build self-confidence, explore and promote their emotional wellbeing, reduce the sense of isolation. Topics often discussed includes:
Intersectional VAWG Advocacy Floating Support Advice
VAWG, harmful practices, housing, welfare benefits, education, and employment access. Access to legal and immigration advice.
Social Support Network
Peer support groups and social indoor and outdoor events.
Campaigning and Lobbying
Raising awareness about harmful practices. Raising KMENA women's voices in policy making. Training for professionals.
Recovery and mental wellbeing
Trauma-informed counselling offered in community languages. Therapeutic support groups. Wellbeing activities and continuous emotional support.
